How to Sync GameSheet to Apple Calendar

GameSheet publishes a live schedule feed, and iPhones subscribe to feeds natively — so the hockey season can sit in your Calendar app next to everything else and keep itself current. The catch is where the link lives: the scores-and-standings pages your league embeds are read-only, and the subscribe option sits in a separate product called GameSheet Teams, behind a login.

Here's the honest version before you start clicking. If you have a GameSheet Teams account, this takes a few minutes. If you don't, the fastest path isn't creating one — it's asking your team manager to copy the calendar URL and send it to you, because that link works for anyone holding it. Both routes are below, plus the iPhone steps and the fine print on refresh.

GameSheet → iPhone, step by step

  1. 1

Start in GameSheet Teams, not the stats page. There are two GameSheets. The scores-and-standings page on your league's website (and gamesheetstats.com behind it) is the public one, and it has no calendar export at all. The feed lives in GameSheet Teams, the dashboard at teams.gamesheet.app. If you're clicking around a standings table looking for a subscribe button, that's why you can't find it.

  2. 2

Log in at teams.gamesheet.app. Sign in with your email and password if you already have a GameSheet Teams account. If you don't, skip to the last step — a parent doesn't strictly need an account to end up with the link.

  3. 3

Open the Schedule tab. The Teams dashboard splits into Roster, Schedule, and team communication. You want Schedule — the calendar option is not in an account or settings menu.

  4. 4

Click Actions, then Subscribe to Team Schedule. Actions is the button above the schedule itself. Subscribing is one item in that menu, alongside the other schedule tools.

  5. 5

Choose Calendar URL rather than the Apple shortcut. GameSheet offers three ways out: Apple Calendar, Google Calendar, or Calendar URL. The Apple option hands the schedule straight to one calendar app and you never see the address. Calendar URL copies the raw link to your clipboard, and that's the version worth taking — it can go on a second phone, into a spouse's calendar, or into Schedule Caddie without redoing the flow.

  6. 6

Add it on your iPhone through Settings. Go to Settings → Apps → Calendar → Add Subscribed Calendar, paste the GameSheet link, and tap Next → Save. (Depending on your iOS version the path runs through Calendar Accounts → Add Account → Other first, and on older versions Calendar appears directly in the main Settings list.)

  7. 7

Check it appears in the Calendar app. Open Calendar, tap Calendars at the bottom, and find the team feed under Subscribed — make sure its checkbox is on, and give it a color that stands out from your personal events.

  8. 8

Optional: add it on your Mac too. In the Mac Calendar app, choose File → New Calendar Subscription, paste the same link, and set Auto-refresh to every hour. Subscriptions added through iCloud sync across your Apple devices automatically.

  9. 9

No login? Ask your team manager for the copied URL. This is the shortcut most hockey parents actually need. The calendar URL isn't tied to your account — once someone copies it, it works for anyone who has it. So a manager or coach can grab it once and text it to the whole team, and you start at the iPhone Settings step above. The alternative is asking them to invite you into GameSheet Teams as a follower, which takes longer and gets you the same link.

The fine print: how Apple handles subscribed feeds

Subscribing puts the schedule in your Calendar app, but iOS refreshes subscribed feeds on its own cycle — GameSheet itself warns Apple can take up to 3 hours to pull a new feed, and phones commonly run slower than that — and it never tells you when an event changes. When the new ice time finally lands, it quietly overwrites the old one. Nothing speeds Apple's cycle up, including us. What Schedule Caddie does instead is read the same GameSheet feed every hour and email you exactly what changed, so the calendar on your phone is the backup, not the only line of defense.

One team subscribed — or the whole family merged?

Subscribe directly

Paste the link into Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, or Outlook and it works — the catch is getting hold of the link in the first place, since generating it needs a GameSheet Teams login most parents don't have. And it's one URL per team — a hockey kid playing league games plus a tournament entry has two GameSheet schedules, subscribed separately on every family phone, before you even count a sibling.

Paste into Schedule Caddie

  • GameSheet plus every other kid's team app, merged into one calendar
  • Color-coded by kid or schedule so you can tell at a glance
  • Email alerts the moment a game or practice changes
  • A weekly digest so nothing slips through
  • School PDF calendars imported alongside — the one schedule with no feed

If something's not working

My league's website shows GameSheet scores but there's no subscribe option

That's the public stats widget most leagues embed, and it's read-only — scores, standings, and stats, with nothing to export. The same is true of the public pages on gamesheetstats.com. Subscribing only exists inside GameSheet Teams.

I don't have a GameSheet Teams login and don't know how to get one

Accounts start with a 10-character invitation code, and those codes are generated for coaches and managers — the league or tournament director hands them out, not GameSheet support. Parents and players are meant to be invited in as team followers by their own coach or manager instead. Either way, the fastest route to a calendar on your phone is asking whoever runs your team to copy the URL and send it to you.

I subscribed but tonight's game still isn't showing up

Give it time before assuming it's broken. GameSheet's own documentation warns that Apple Calendar can take up to 3 hours to pull a new feed (and Google Calendar up to 24). That's the calendar app's refresh cycle, not something you can speed up from the GameSheet side.

The subscription only shows on my phone, not my spouse's

Subscriptions live on the device (or iCloud account) that added them. Either repeat the steps on each phone with the same Calendar URL — or put the link in Schedule Caddie once and share the merged family calendar, which also covers the grandparents without touching their settings.

My kid plays league games and tournaments under different teams

Common in hockey, and it means more than one feed. GameSheet treats a tournament entry as its own team with its own schedule, so it gets its own calendar URL. Subscribe to each one separately — or paste both into Schedule Caddie, where they merge into a single view of your kid's season.

Frequently asked questions

How often does Apple Calendar refresh a subscribed GameSheet feed?

On iPhone, iOS decides — GameSheet's own documentation warns Apple can take up to 3 hours to pull a new feed, and in practice subscribed calendars refresh on a cycle that can stretch toward a day. On a Mac you can set Auto-refresh to hourly. Either way, changes arrive with no notification: the event just moves.

Will my iPhone notify me when a game gets moved?

No — subscribed calendars update quietly, and when the new time finally lands it just replaces the old one. In a sport where ice time shifts at short notice, that gap is the whole problem. Schedule Caddie re-reads the same GameSheet feed every hour and emails you exactly what changed: old time, new time, which team.

Can I get a GameSheet calendar link without an account?

Yes, indirectly. The link itself isn't personal — it's a plain subscription URL, and it keeps working for whoever holds it. What requires a login is generating it in the first place. So ask your team manager to copy it once from the Schedule tab and share it with the parents. That's genuinely how most families on GameSheet end up subscribed.

Should I use the Apple Calendar button in GameSheet or copy the URL?

If you only ever want it on the one phone you're holding, the Apple button is fine. Copy the Calendar URL if anyone else in the family needs it too — that address can be pasted on a second iPhone, a Mac, a spouse's Google Calendar, or into Schedule Caddie, without going back through GameSheet Teams.

Can I combine my GameSheet hockey schedule with my other kid's teams?

Not within GameSheet — it only knows about teams that exist in its own system, and there's no way to bring an outside feed into it. This is a common squeeze for hockey families, because the hockey kid is on GameSheet through the league while a sibling's team runs on something else entirely. Schedule Caddie is built for that: paste each link in once and every team lands on one color-coded calendar.
