Cozi Calendar Not Syncing or Updating? What to Check

Most "Cozi isn't syncing" moments are actually one of three documented refresh cycles doing exactly what it says — just slower than you hoped. Work through the direction that's stale, in order, before reinstalling anything.

⏱ Takes about 10 minutesCozi's own iCal help article

The checklist

  1. 1

First: decide which direction is "not syncing". Three different pipes get called "Cozi sync," each with its own cycle: (1) INTO Cozi — a team or school feed you subscribed via Connected Calendars; (2) OUT of Cozi — the Cozi iCal URL you added to Google/Apple/Outlook; (3) BETWEEN family members — the shared account itself. The fix depends entirely on which one is stale.

  2. 2

Feeds INTO Cozi: allow about an hour, then check the URL. Cozi documents that connected-calendar updates appear "within about an hour" of a change, on the next refresh with a connection. If it's been longer: open Settings → Connected Calendars and confirm the feed is still listed and its source URL still works (paste it into a browser — it should load or download an .ics file). Team apps sometimes rotate their links between seasons, which quietly kills the old one.

  3. 3

Cozi INTO Google/Apple: this one is slow by design. Cozi's own help page notes that changes reach the shared iCal URL immediately, but Google Calendar "can take up to 48 hours" to re-read subscribed calendars. That delay lives on Google's side, not Cozi's — no amount of Cozi fiddling speeds it up. Apple's refresh interval is adjustable per subscription (Settings → Apps → Calendar).

  4. 4

Between family members: force-close, refresh, re-login. For lists or events not matching between phones on the same account: force-close the app on both devices, reopen, and pull to refresh. If one device stays stale, sign out and back in on that device — the account state on Cozi's side is usually fine; it's the local cache that's stuck.

  5. 5

Still stale? Rebuild the one broken link, not everything. Delete just the affected connected calendar (the X next to it in Connected Calendars) and re-add it with a freshly-copied URL from the source app. Re-pick which family members it applies to. Avoid the scorched-earth reinstall until a single-feed rebuild has failed.

Related snags

The schedule updated eventually — but nobody told us it changed

That's not a bug; it's how calendar subscriptions work everywhere. A subscribed feed silently becomes the new truth — in Cozi, Google, and Apple alike. Cozi Gold's Calendar Change Notifications cover events created or edited inside Cozi; its help pages don't describe alerts when a subscribed feed changes. If the schedules that keep changing are team and school feeds, that gap is exactly what Schedule Caddie's free change-alert emails cover — and Cozi can subscribe to our merged feed like any other URL.

My school calendar is a PDF, so there's nothing to subscribe to

Correct — no calendar app can subscribe to a PDF. Upload it (or a photo of it) to Schedule Caddie instead; it reads out the dates, you review them, and the resulting feed URL is something Cozi CAN connect to.

The app itself freezes or jumps dates while scrolling

App stability is Cozi's to fix — reinstalling and updating iOS/Android sometimes helps, and reporting through Cozi's support gets it in front of them. Nothing on this page (or any third-party tool) repairs in-app freezes.

Frequently asked questions

How often does Cozi refresh subscribed calendar feeds?

Cozi's help documentation says feed updates appear "within about an hour" of the change, or on the next refresh once the device has a connection.

Why does Google Calendar take so long to show my Cozi events?

Google re-reads subscribed iCal URLs on its own schedule — Cozi's documentation says allow up to 48 hours. This is a Google-side interval that applies to every subscribed calendar, not just Cozi's.

Does anything alert me when a team feed changes inside all this plumbing?

Subscriptions everywhere update silently — that's the design. If you want an email naming exactly what changed (old time → new time), route your team and school feeds through Schedule Caddie first, free, and let Cozi subscribe to the merged result.

How current is the Cozi information here?

Taken from cozi.com's own help pages as of September 2026. If Cozi changes a flow or an interval, tell us and we'll fix the page.
