How to Get a Shareable Link From Proton Calendar

Proton Calendar is where privacy-minded families keep their real life — and it can publish any calendar as a live link that Google, Apple, Outlook, or a family schedule hub can read, no Proton account required on the other end. Here's exactly where the option hides and the two settings that matter.

⏱ Takes about 4 minutes

The steps

  1. 1

Open calendar settings on the web. Sign in at calendar.proton.me, then Settings → All settings → Calendars. Link sharing is a web-app feature — the mobile apps can't create links.

  2. 2

Pick the calendar, then find 'Share with anyone'. Select the calendar you want to publish (each kid's calendar, the family one — links are per-calendar). Scroll to the 'Share with anyone' section. Note: creating links requires a paid Proton plan.

  3. 3

Click 'Create link' and choose Full view. Two modes: Limited view shows only busy/free blocks; Full view includes event titles, descriptions, and locations. For pulling the calendar into another app or a family schedule hub, you want Full view — Limited produces events with no names.

  4. 4

Copy the link — it works in any calendar app. The URL (it starts with calendar.proton.me/api/calendar/v1/url/…) is a live iCal feed. Anyone with the link can subscribe from Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, Outlook — or paste it into Schedule Caddie to merge it with the kids' team feeds. No Proton account needed on the other end.

  5. 5

Manage or revoke links anytime. Back in the same section, the Actions menu lets you label, edit, or delete a link — deleting it cuts off everyone using it immediately. Each calendar supports up to five links, so you can hand different people different links and revoke them individually.

If something's not working

I don't see 'Create link' / it's asking me to upgrade

Sharing via link is a paid-plan feature (any paid Proton tier). On the free plan you can still export a one-time .ics file of a calendar — but that's a snapshot, not a live link; it won't stay current.

The subscribed copy shows events with no titles

The link was created in Limited view, which shares busy/free only. Delete it and create a new link in Full view.

New events take hours to show up in the other app

That lag is on the subscribing side — most calendar apps re-fetch external feeds on their own schedule (a few hours to a day). The link itself is always current the moment it's fetched.

Frequently asked questions

Doesn't sharing a link break Proton's end-to-end encryption?

The link itself carries the decryption key for that one calendar — that's how a non-Proton app can read it. Treat the URL like a key: share it only with people and apps you trust, and delete the link to revoke access. Your other calendars stay fully encrypted.

Why would I pull Proton calendars INTO Schedule Caddie?

If the kids' sports feeds, the school calendar, and your Proton family calendars all merge in one place, you get a single color-coded family view — plus change-alert emails when a team app silently moves a game, filtered share pages for grandparents, and one URL to subscribe any phone to. Real families run seven Proton calendars through it.

Can I share with my partner without a link?

Yes — if they also use Proton, invite them directly (Settings → Calendars → Share with Proton users) and it stays end-to-end encrypted with view or edit rights. Links are for everyone else: non-Proton apps, family hubs, and schedule tools.

How current are these steps?

From Proton's documented share-via-link flow as of September 2026, verified against live shared links. If Proton moves a button, tell us and we'll fix this page.
