If your family runs on Proton for privacy, the kids' team schedules don't have to live somewhere else. Proton Calendar subscribes to any iCal URL — the same links TeamSnap, GameChanger, and league sites publish. Here's where the setting hides, and the one honest caveat about how fast it refreshes.
Get the calendar link for each team. Every schedule needs an iCal/webcal URL. Team apps publish one (TeamSnap, GameChanger, SportsEngine, league sites — our guides show where each hides it). If you'd rather subscribe once instead of five times, merge them in Schedule Caddie first and use its single unified feed URL.
Open Proton Calendar settings on the web. Sign in at calendar.proton.me, then go to Settings → All settings → Calendars. Subscriptions are managed from the web app — the phone apps display the events but don't add subscriptions.
Under 'Other calendars,' click 'Add calendar from URL'. Paste the schedule link into the Calendar URL field and click Add calendar. If the link starts with webcal://, swap that prefix for https:// if Proton rejects it as-is.
Repeat per team — or subscribe once to a merged feed. Each subscribed calendar counts against your plan's calendar limit, and each gets its own color. A family with four teams, a league site, and a school calendar can burn six slots — or one, if you subscribe to a single merged Schedule Caddie feed.
Know the refresh window before you trust it on game day. Proton syncs third-party calendars every 4–16 hours, and subscribed calendars are read-only. That's fine for seeing the week — it is NOT a same-day-change alert system. Pair it with change-alert emails (below) so a moved game time never hides in the lag.
"Unsupported calendar format" when adding the URL
Proton wants a direct .ics (iCalendar) link. Make sure you copied the feed/subscribe URL, not the team page's web address — and try https:// in place of a webcal:// prefix.
A game time changed but Proton still shows the old time
That's the 4–16 hour sync window — Proton will catch up, but it can't tell you something moved. Change-alert emails from Schedule Caddie name exactly what changed within hours, so you hear about it before the calendar quietly updates.
I can't edit or fix an event on a subscribed calendar
Subscribed calendars are read-only by design — corrections have to happen at the source (the team app), or in a calendar you own. This is normal for every calendar app, not a Proton quirk.
Events you create in Proton stay end-to-end encrypted. Subscribed external calendars are fetched from their public URLs — the team app's feed was already unencrypted at the source, so you lose nothing by subscribing; your personal events keep Proton's full protection.
Add the subscription once in the web app at calendar.proton.me — after that, the events show up in Proton's mobile and desktop apps automatically.
Schedule Caddie can turn a photographed or PDF schedule into calendar events, merge it with your team feeds, and give you one URL for Proton to subscribe to. That's the route for schools and clubs that never publish a feed.
