PlayMetrics schedules can live right in your iPhone's Calendar app — games, training, and club events alongside everything else, updating on their own, no app-checking required. Apple makes the subscribing part easy; the two things worth knowing before you start are that PlayMetrics only hands out links through the Sync Calendar button on its Calendar page — one link per player, even though the PlayMetrics view merges your kids — and that iPhones are slow and silent about picking up schedule changes afterward.
This guide covers both paths to subscribe on an iPhone (the one-tap webcal way and the Settings way), the Mac version, and the honest fine print about how often Apple actually refreshes the feed.
Sign in to PlayMetrics and open Calendar. Sign in with your Player Contact account — the parent-side login your club set up. On a computer, Calendar sits in the left-hand menu; on a phone, tap the menu icon first. Either way you land on a consolidated calendar showing every player attached to your account.
Select Sync Calendar. The Sync Calendar button lives on that Calendar page. It's the one place PlayMetrics hands out subscription links — there's no separate export option buried in account settings.
Choose which player you're subscribing to. Even though the Calendar view merges all your kids, the subscription itself is per player. Pick one now; if you have two players in the club, you'll run this again for the second.
Choose Full Calendar or Games Only, then copy the hyperlink. Full Calendar includes practices and club events as well as games; Games Only strips it down to match days. PlayMetrics will either walk you into your calendar app or show you a copyable hyperlink — take the hyperlink, so you hold the raw URL yourself.
Tap the link as webcal on your iPhone. If the copied link starts with webcal://, just open it in Safari — iOS recognizes it and asks if you want to subscribe. If it starts with https:// instead, swap that prefix for webcal:// and open it, or use the Settings path below.
Or add it through Settings. Go to Settings → Apps → Calendar → Calendar Accounts → Add Account → Other → Add Subscribed Calendar, paste the PlayMetrics link, and tap Next → Save. (On older iOS versions, Calendar appears directly in the main Settings list.)
Check it appears in the Calendar app. Open the Calendar app, tap Calendars at the bottom, and you should see the feed under Subscribed — make sure its checkbox is on. Tap the info icon to give it a color that stands out from your personal events.
Optional: add it on your Mac too. In the Mac Calendar app, choose File → New Calendar Subscription, paste the same link, and set Auto-refresh to every hour. Subscriptions added through iCloud sync across your Apple devices automatically.
Subscribing puts the schedule on your phone, but iOS refreshes subscribed calendars on its own lazy cycle — often several hours behind, sometimes a full day — and it never notifies you when an event changes. A training session that moved this morning can still show the old time at pickup. Schedule Caddie checks the same PlayMetrics feed every day and emails you exactly what changed, so the calendar on your phone is the backup, not the only line of defense.
Paste the link into Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, or Outlook and it works — and it's genuinely fine for one team. The squeeze comes at two kids on three teams: every team is another link, another subscription, another calendar color to manage by hand — and none of them warn you when two games land at the same hour.
Only one of my kids' schedules came through
Expected — the Calendar page merges your players, but Sync Calendar issues one link per player. Go back and repeat the sync for each child, adding each URL as its own subscription — or paste each link into Schedule Caddie and let it merge them for you.
I don't see Calendar in the menu
On a phone it's behind the menu icon rather than a visible sidebar. If it's still missing, check which role you're signed in as — PlayMetrics accounts can hold several roles (coach, club admin, Player Contact), and you may need to switch to your Player Contact role first.
Nothing happens when I tap the link
That usually means the link starts with https:// rather than webcal:// — Safari treats it as a file download instead of a calendar. Replace https:// with webcal:// and open it again, or skip the tap entirely and paste the link via Settings → Apps → Calendar → Calendar Accounts → Add Account → Other → Add Subscribed Calendar.
The calendar subscribed but I don't see any events
Open the Calendar app, tap Calendars at the bottom, and check that the new subscription is ticked. Also check the date you're looking at — if the season hasn't been published yet, the feed can be legitimately empty.
A game moved in PlayMetrics but my iPhone still shows the old time
That's iOS being lazy, not the link being broken. PlayMetrics says this themselves in their help article: subscribed calendars may not always be in sync, because calendar apps only pull feed updates periodically. iPhones refresh subscribed calendars on their own schedule — often several hours, sometimes up to a day — and there's no reliable way to force it per-calendar. If knowing about changes quickly matters, that's exactly the gap Schedule Caddie covers.
I subscribed twice and now every game shows up doubled
Go to Settings → Apps → Calendar → Calendar Accounts, find the duplicate subscribed calendar, and delete one. Duplicates usually happen when you tap the webcal link and later also add it via Settings.
iOS decides on its own — typically somewhere between a few hours and a full day. There's no setting to make a subscribed calendar refresh faster on iPhone, and no notification when something changes; the events just quietly update whenever iOS gets around to it.
No. Subscribed calendars update silently — the event moves, but nothing tells you it moved. If you want an actual heads-up, Schedule Caddie watches the same PlayMetrics feed daily and emails you exactly what changed: new time, old time, which team.
Full Calendar gives you everything PlayMetrics has for that player — games, training sessions, and club events. Games Only narrows it to match days. Most parents want Full Calendar; practices are the thing that moves most often.
A subscription only lives on the device (or iCloud account) that added it. The simplest options: have them subscribe with the same hyperlink on their phone, or put the schedule in Schedule Caddie and send them a share link that works in any browser — no setup on their end.
Settings → Apps → Calendar → Calendar Accounts → tap the subscribed calendar → Delete Account. It disappears from the Calendar app immediately; you can re-subscribe with the same link anytime.
Each app means another link and another separate calendar on your phone — and with PlayMetrics, each player is already their own feed.
