How to Sync SportsEngine to Apple Calendar on iPhone

SportsEngine's Sync Schedule screen offers an Apple button, and for a lot of parents that single tap is the whole job. This page explains when the button is enough, when you'd rather copy the raw link instead (any time a second device or a second parent is involved), and the one iPhone quirk that trips people up: a link that begins with https:// downloads instead of subscribing.

It also covers the thing SportsEngine changed in late 2025 — the link now lives behind MySE → Sync Schedule, not on your club's website — and how slowly an iPhone actually notices once a game gets moved.

From MySE to your iPhone

  1. 1

Sign in to your SportsEngine (MySE) account and open the Schedule tab. MySE is SportsEngine's member-account branding — it's the account that aggregates every team and event you're registered for, not an individual team's public page.

  2. 2

Click Sync Schedule, top-right corner. This is the current button. Older guides describe a "Subscribe" or "Export" option on a separate team website — that route can still work as a fallback, but Sync Schedule from your MySE account is now the documented, primary path.

  3. 3

Decide: the Apple button, or Other Calendar → Copy. Sync Schedule offers a direct Apple button alongside Other Calendar. The Apple button is the shortest route if this one iPhone is the only place the schedule ever needs to go. Choose Other Calendar, then Copy, if you want the raw SportsEngine link on the clipboard — that's the version you can hand to a second phone, a Mac, or Schedule Caddie later without logging back into MySE. The rest of this page assumes you copied the link.

  4. 4

Open the SportsEngine link as webcal in Safari. Look at how the copied link begins. A webcal:// address can simply be opened in Safari on your iPhone — iOS recognizes the scheme and asks whether to subscribe. If SportsEngine gave you an https:// address instead, edit the prefix to webcal:// before opening it; left as https://, Safari treats the schedule as a file to download rather than a calendar to subscribe to. If editing URLs on a phone keyboard is not your idea of fun, the next step avoids it entirely.

  5. 5

The no-editing alternative: paste it in Settings. Settings → Apps → Calendar → Calendar Accounts → Add Account → Other → Add Subscribed Calendar. Paste the SportsEngine link exactly as copied (https:// is fine here), then Next → Save. On older iOS versions Calendar sits directly in the main Settings list instead of under Apps.

  6. 6

Confirm the MySE feed is switched on in Calendar. Open the Calendar app and tap Calendars at the bottom. The SportsEngine feed is listed under Subscribed; make sure its checkbox is ticked or the games stay invisible. Tapping the info icon lets you pick a color — worth doing so the team stands apart from your own appointments, and essential once a second SportsEngine team is subscribed alongside it.

  7. 7

Mac too? Same link, one extra setting. In Calendar on the Mac, File → New Calendar Subscription, paste the SportsEngine link, and set Auto-refresh to every hour — the Mac lets you choose a refresh interval where the iPhone does not. A subscription added through iCloud syncs across your Apple devices automatically, so you may not even need to repeat the phone steps.

Apple button vs. copied link: which one you want

SportsEngine's Sync Schedule dialog gives you two exits. The Apple button adds the subscription for you on the device you're using and never shows you the address. Other Calendar → Copy puts the address on your clipboard and leaves the subscribing to you.

The button is right for exactly one situation: one parent, one iPhone, no plans to share. The moment a second phone, a Mac, or a merged family calendar enters the picture, the copied link is the one you want — it can be pasted anywhere, as many times as needed, without another trip through MySE.

What an iPhone does — and doesn't do — with a SportsEngine feed

Once subscribed, the schedule maintains itself, but on Apple's timetable. iOS re-reads a subscribed calendar when it decides to — several hours between checks is typical, and a full day is not unusual — and there is no reliable way to refresh one calendar on demand and no alert when a game moves. The old time simply becomes the new time whenever the phone gets around to it. Schedule Caddie reads the same SportsEngine feed every hour and emails you what changed, so the iPhone calendar is the convenient view, not the thing you rely on for tonight's pickup time.

One team subscribed — or the whole family merged?

Subscribe directly

Paste the link into Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, or Outlook and it works — with the SportsEngine-specific wrinkle that the Apple button is a one-device shortcut with nothing to paste afterwards. Add a sibling on TeamSnap, a spouse who also wants the games, and a school calendar that exists only as a PDF, and you're maintaining a stack of separate subscriptions on each device — none of which flags the Saturday where two of them collide.

Paste into Schedule Caddie

  • SportsEngine plus every other kid's team app, merged into one calendar
  • Color-coded by kid or schedule so you can tell at a glance
  • Email alerts the moment a game or practice changes
  • A weekly digest so nothing slips through
  • School PDF calendars imported alongside — the one schedule with no feed

If something's not working

The SportsEngine steps I found online don't match what I'm seeing

You're likely reading pre-October-2025 instructions. The current flow is MySE Schedule tab → Sync Schedule → Other Calendar → Copy, not a separate organization website.

I can't find Sync Schedule

Make sure you're signed into your personal MySE account (the one tied to your email), not just browsing your organization's public team page — Sync Schedule lives inside the logged-in Schedule tab, top-right.

I opened the SportsEngine link in Safari and it tried to download something

The link is https:// rather than webcal://, so Safari saw a file instead of a calendar. Either change the first part of the address to webcal:// and open it again, or skip Safari and paste the link under Settings → Apps → Calendar → Calendar Accounts → Add Account → Other → Add Subscribed Calendar, where the prefix doesn't matter.

I used the Apple button in SportsEngine and now want the link for something else

Go back to your MySE Schedule tab, click Sync Schedule again, and this time choose Other Calendar then Copy. The Apple button is a shortcut that never shows you the address; Other Calendar → Copy is the route that puts it on the clipboard.

SportsEngine shows the new time, my iPhone shows the old one

The feed is current; the phone's copy is not. iOS re-reads subscribed calendars on a schedule of its own choosing — several hours is normal, up to a day is possible — and there is no reliable way to make one calendar refresh on demand. Deleting the subscription and adding it again forces a fresh pull, which is a blunt fix for a game that's tonight. For anything time-sensitive, Schedule Caddie reads the same SportsEngine feed every hour and emails you the old time, the new time, and which team.

Every game is listed twice

Two subscriptions to the same SportsEngine feed — usually the Apple button once and the pasted link once, or the webcal tap plus the Settings path. Open Settings → Apps → Calendar → Calendar Accounts, find the duplicate subscribed calendar, and delete one of them.

Frequently asked questions

Should I use SportsEngine's Apple button or copy the link?

If this iPhone is the only place the schedule needs to live, the Apple button is fine and faster. Copy the link via Other Calendar if a spouse, a grandparent, a Mac, or Schedule Caddie will ever need the same schedule — a copied address can be reused anywhere; the button route leaves you with nothing to paste.

I subscribed before October 2025 using a link from my club's website. Do I need to redo it?

Probably not. SportsEngine restructured the flow in October 2025, and older org-website iCal links generally keep working — you just won't find the same menu if you go looking for it again. Only redo the subscription if the old feed has actually stopped showing new games; then grab a fresh link from MySE → Sync Schedule → Other Calendar → Copy.

My kid is on two SportsEngine teams. Is that two subscriptions on my iPhone?

Yes. Your MySE account lists every team you registered, but Sync Schedule gives you one link per team, so each becomes its own subscribed calendar on the phone — give them different colors under Calendars → info icon. The alternative is pasting both links into Schedule Caddie and subscribing your iPhone to one merged calendar instead, which is also what flags the day both teams play at once.

Will my iPhone tell me when SportsEngine reschedules a game?

No. When iOS eventually refreshes the subscription, the event changes in place with no notification and no highlight. You'd have to open the calendar and notice. Schedule Caddie exists for that gap: it checks the same SportsEngine feed every hour and emails you exactly what changed.

Can I do all of this without a computer?

Yes. Sign in to MySE in Safari on the phone, Sync Schedule → Other Calendar → Copy, then either open the link as webcal or paste it under Settings → Apps → Calendar → Calendar Accounts → Add Account → Other → Add Subscribed Calendar. A laptop is never required.

How do I take the SportsEngine calendar off my iPhone when the season ends?

Settings → Apps → Calendar → Calendar Accounts, tap the SportsEngine subscription, then Delete Account. It vanishes from the Calendar app immediately. Next season, a fresh Sync Schedule link puts it back.
