How to Sync TeamSideline to Apple Calendar on iPhone

TeamSideline schedules can live right in your iPhone's Calendar app — games and practices alongside everything else, updating on their own, no app-checking required. The place people get stuck is finding the link: TeamSideline's subscribe control on the web isn't a button at all (it's an information icon shaped like an exclamation point). After that, iPhones are slow and silent about picking up schedule changes.

This guide walks the copy step on either kind of TeamSideline site — Organization Site or Team Site, web or app — then both paths to subscribe on an iPhone (the one-tap webcal way and the Settings way), the Mac version, and the honest fine print about how often Apple actually refreshes the feed.

Add TeamSideline to your iPhone calendar

  1. 1

Open the calendar you actually want. TeamSideline runs two kinds of sites, and both have their own calendar. Your league's Organization Site is the public one you reach from a web address the league sent out. Your Team Site is the one you log into at go.teamsideline.com. Pick whichever one carries the schedule you care about — the copy step is the same for both.

  2. 2

Go to the Calendar tab. On the web, that's the Calendar page of the site you just opened. In the TeamSideline app, tap Calendar along the bottom.

  3. 3

Click Subscribe to this Calendar. This is the step people miss. On the web it isn't a button — TeamSideline's own help article describes it as an information icon that looks like an exclamation point. In the app, tap the circle icon with dots in the top right corner first, then tap Subscribe — TeamSideline says the app's calendar handoff currently works on iPhone, so this can complete directly.

  4. 4

Copy the iCal URL. A calendar address appears. Copy the whole thing. If you are on a division game schedule page rather than a calendar page, you will see a Subscribe button instead, and it gives you a separate URL per team — copy the one for your kid.

  5. 5

Tap the link as webcal on your iPhone. If the copied link starts with webcal://, just open it in Safari — iOS recognizes it and asks if you want to subscribe. If it starts with https:// instead, swap that prefix for webcal:// and open it, or use the Settings path below.

  6. 6

Or add it through Settings. Go to Settings → Apps → Calendar → Calendar Accounts → Add Account → Other → Add Subscribed Calendar, paste the TeamSideline link, and tap Next → Save. (On older iOS versions, Calendar appears directly in the main Settings list.)

  7. 7

Check it appears in the Calendar app. Open the Calendar app, tap Calendars at the bottom, and you should see the feed under Subscribed — make sure its checkbox is on. Tap the info icon to give it a color that stands out from your personal events.

  8. 8

Optional: add it on your Mac too. In the Mac Calendar app, choose File → New Calendar Subscription, paste the same link, and set Auto-refresh to every hour. Subscriptions added through iCloud sync across your Apple devices automatically.

The fine print: how Apple Calendar handles subscribed feeds

Subscribing puts the schedule on your phone, but iOS refreshes subscribed calendars on its own lazy cycle — often several hours behind, sometimes a full day — and it never notifies you when an event changes. A game that moved this morning can still show the old time at pickup. Schedule Caddie checks the same TeamSideline feed every day and emails you exactly what changed, so the calendar on your phone is the backup, not the only line of defense.

One team subscribed — or the whole family merged?

Subscribe directly

Paste the link into Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, or Outlook and it works — and it's genuinely fine for one team. The squeeze comes at two kids on three teams: every team is another link, another subscription, another calendar color to manage by hand — and none of them warn you when two games land at the same hour.

Paste into Schedule Caddie

  • TeamSideline plus every other kid's team app, merged into one calendar
  • Color-coded by kid or schedule so you can tell at a glance
  • Email alerts the moment a game or practice changes
  • A weekly digest so nothing slips through
  • School PDF calendars imported alongside — the one schedule with no feed

If something's not working

I'm on the Calendar page and there's no Subscribe button

Look for a small information icon shaped like an exclamation point rather than a button with the word Subscribe on it — that icon is the subscribe control on calendar pages. Division game schedule pages are the exception: those really do have a Subscribe button.

"An identical Subscribed Calendar account already exists"

Your iPhone already holds a subscription to that same TeamSideline calendar from a previous season. Remove the old one under Settings → Apps → Calendar → Calendar Accounts, then subscribe again with the current link.

Nothing happens when I tap the link

That usually means the link starts with https:// rather than webcal:// — Safari treats it as a file download instead of a calendar. Replace https:// with webcal:// and open it again, or skip the tap entirely and paste the link via Settings → Apps → Calendar → Calendar Accounts → Add Account → Other → Add Subscribed Calendar.

The calendar subscribed but I don't see any events

Open the Calendar app, tap Calendars at the bottom, and check that the new subscription is ticked. Also check the date you're looking at — if the season hasn't been published yet, the feed can be legitimately empty.

A game moved in TeamSideline but my iPhone still shows the old time

That's iOS being lazy, not the link being broken. iPhones refresh subscribed calendars on their own schedule — often several hours, sometimes up to a day. There's no reliable way to force it per-calendar; removing and re-adding the subscription is the blunt fix. If knowing about changes quickly matters, that's exactly the gap Schedule Caddie covers.

I subscribed twice and now every game shows up doubled

Go to Settings → Apps → Calendar → Calendar Accounts, find the duplicate subscribed calendar, and delete one. Duplicates usually happen when you tap the webcal link and later also add it via Settings.

Frequently asked questions

How often does the iPhone refresh a subscribed TeamSideline calendar?

iOS decides on its own — typically somewhere between a few hours and a full day. There's no setting to make a subscribed calendar refresh faster on iPhone, and no notification when something changes; the events just quietly update whenever iOS gets around to it.

Will my iPhone notify me if a TeamSideline game is rescheduled?

No. Subscribed calendars update silently — the event moves, but nothing tells you it moved. If you want an actual heads-up, Schedule Caddie watches the same TeamSideline feed daily and emails you exactly what changed: new time, old time, which team.

Can I subscribe to just my kid's team instead of the whole division?

Yes. On a division game schedule page, click Subscribe and TeamSideline offers a URL per team — copy the one for your kid rather than the division-wide address. If you want both, they are separate subscriptions.

Can my spouse see the calendar too, or just me?

A subscription only lives on the device (or iCloud account) that added it. The simplest options: have them subscribe with the same iCal URL on their phone, or put the schedule in Schedule Caddie and send them a share link that works in any browser — no setup on their end.

How do I remove the TeamSideline calendar from my iPhone later?

Settings → Apps → Calendar → Calendar Accounts → tap the subscribed calendar → Delete Account. It disappears from the Calendar app immediately; you can re-subscribe with the same link anytime.

What if my kid has teams on other apps too?

Each app means another link and another separate calendar on your phone — that's the point where one merged family calendar beats five subscriptions. Schedule Caddie takes the same links (TeamSideline, TeamSnap, GameChanger, school PDFs) and merges them into one color-coded calendar with conflict detection.
